A former member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week revealed his take that current Blaugrana sensation Lamine Yamal would likely not have been a starter during his own time with the club.
The player in question? Gerard Piqué.
Wide-man Lamine is of course widely considered to be the standout young talent in world football at present.
Despite being just 17 years of age, the Spanish international is already considered one of the standout attackers in the game, as evidenced by his haul of 27 direct goal contributions in 33 appearances this season.
Lamine, for his part, is one of the first names on the team sheet of boss Hansi Flick, alongside the likes of Pedri, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
And yet, of the opinion that the starlet would, as of this moment, not have been a regular contributor for Barcelona during his own time at the club is Gerard Piqué.
Speaking during an appearance on Iker Casillas’ new podcast (as cited by Marca) this week, ex-stopper Piqué explained:
“My feeling is that Lamine Yamal would not be playing in our generation.”
