Contract renewals have been a major priority for Barcelona in recent weeks. In fact, the club has reportedly been giving priority to those operations regarding renewals even over new signings. So far, Barcelona has managed to renew the contracts of certain key players already.
First came the renewal of Ronald Araujo, who put pen to paper soon after rumors emerged linking the player to Serie A side Juventus. Then, soon after, both Pedri and Gavi were renewed as well by the Catalan club, ensuring the extensions of quite a few key players.
Now, most recently, 18-year-old Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi has already renewed his stay with the club. The Spaniard has already put pen to paper on a deal that will now see him extend his stay at the club until 2029 and it was signed just today.
However, according to SPORT, Barcelona has neither officially revealed nor changed the player’s current release clause. As per the report, the exact value of that release clause is still set at €500 million, which is the same as the one that the defender had before in his previous contract.
The reason behind not changing the release clause is the fact that the club believes it to be quite sufficient already. Reportedly, Barcelona believes that the €500 million release clause is already a value that no other club would be able to match, regardless of how interested they might be in the player.
However, the club’s decision to not make this information public is based on a grander policy that will see Barcelona refrain from doing so with any contract renewal moving forward. Just as they did with other extensions that were recently wrapped up, the release clauses will also be kept under wraps moving forward.
Either way, the good news is that Pau Cubarsi is set to continue with Barcelona for the years to come. The Spaniard is one of the key players for the team and his renewal was a major priority for the club alongside the agreements they managed to reach with other fundamental players.
