Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona remains unclear. The Dutch midfielder will have just one year left on his contract after this season, and unless he signs an extension this summer, he could be set to leave.
Per a report from SPORT in October, top clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, are monitoring de Jong’s situation.
Although de Jong has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona, PSG’s history of signing players from the Catalan club makes them a potential destination for him next summer.
TEAMtalk reported on Friday that Liverpool have shown genuine interest in signing de Jong. However, they would need him to lower his wage demands for the transfer. De Jong’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, but talks over a potential renewal have stalled.
If the situation doesn’t change in the next few weeks, Barcelona will look to sell him in the summer to both cash in and reduce their wage bill and are willing to consider offers of around €35 million.

Mundo Deportivo reports (h/t Diario AS) that Barcelona have made the decision not to prioritize a contract renewal for de Jong. With his current deal set to expire, the club is unable to meet his salary demands and is no longer considering an extension.
It’s understood that Barcelona expects de Jong to leave once his contract concludes. Journalist Miguel Rico recently reported that Barcelona has grown uncertain about Frenkie de Jong’s performances on the pitch.
With their contract offer now expired, a move away from the club appears increasingly likely, and he could be sold for a relatively “modest” fee in the near future.
