Although he does not enjoy the spotlight as much as some other La Masia graduates, like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, the midfielder Fermin Lopez has also been playing at a very high level for FC Barcelona since his promotion to the first team.
However, his recent form has been particularly remarkable. In Barcelona’s latest league victory over Levante, Fermin once again found the back of the net with a superb left-footed finish, bringing his season total to 11 goals across all competitions.
Five of those strikes have come in La Liga, already just one fewer than he managed throughout the entire previous campaign.
What makes his current output even more impressive is the efficiency with which it has arrived. Fermin Lopez has scored those 11 goals in 2,018 minutes of action, surpassing last season’s tally of eight goals, which required slightly more playing time.
With several months of the campaign still remaining, the Barcelona midfielder is well-positioned to further extend these numbers.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Fermin’s scoring record this season places him ahead of several of Europe’s most highly regarded attacking midfielders. Vitinha of Paris Saint-Germain has scored six goals so far, the same total as Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid, despite similar minutes played.
Among elite European sides, only Phil Foden of Manchester City comes close, with 10 goals scored in significantly more minutes. For a player who is still establishing himself at the top level, Fermin’s numbers underline his growing influence and hint at an even more productive end to the season for both club and player.
