Not a lot changed in terms of trophies won between the first two years of Hansi Flick’s tenure on the FC Barcelona bench. The Blaugranes won all the domestic trophies in the German’s first year in charge of their team, and again won the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles in his second season. However, there were quite some changes in Flick’s team selection preferences in these two seasons.

Several players saw their fortunes vary between the two seasons, but one player who clearly lost prominence in the German trainer’s second year in charge of the Catalan team was the fullback Alejandro Balde. He had a poor 2025-26 season overall and also lost his starting spot on the left-back position to Joao Cancelo in the second half.

As a result, there were frequent rumors of his potential departure from Barcelona this summer. Some reports suggested that the Blaugranes themselves were looking for his exit.

However, this is not really the case, as Mundo Deportivo reports that the Spaniard is actually a part of Flick’s plans for the next season. The Catalan club does not have him in on the market for now, but would consider a transfer if the player himself comes up with an offer. In this latter case, the club would start looking for his replacement after his sale.

But for now, the Blaugranes are surprised by the rumors of the sale of an important player who has a contract till 2028. Meanwhile, they are also not looking renew his contract for now, but would address this before the end of the next season.

Alejandro Balde is attracting interest from several big sides this summer, with Manchester United and Manchester City being the sides most closely following him, and which can make an offer for him. Aston Villa is another side interested in him, while Inter Milan are also keeping an eye on his situation. For now, it remains to be seen how his situation develops, and whether he would remain at Barcelona for the next season.
