FC Barcelona are carefully reviewing their defensive line heading into the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen the squad.

A top, left-footed centre-back is already seen as a priority, with Alessandro Bastoni being identified as the main target by the Catalans.

In addition, recent reports suggested that Barça were also considering entering the market for a new left-back, with interest in former La Masia graduate, Marc Cucurella of Chelsea.

No move for Cucurella planned

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, , the option of signing Cucurella is not currently being considered, despite his quality.

It was suggested that the 27-year-old Spanish international would be open to a return to his boyhood club and could cost around €50 million this summer.

However, for now, there are no plans for Barcelona to bring the Chelsea defender to the Spotify Camp Nou.

Trust in Balde and Cancelo

As per the report, Barcelona believe that the left-back position is covered by Alejandro Balde and are also keen to retain Joao Cancelo, who is on loan from Al-Hilal.

Cancelo has established himself as the preferred option in the starting line-up, even playing on the left despite being naturally right-footed. Flick initially deployed him there during Balde’s injury, and his attacking contribution has secured his place.

Despite rumours of a potential sale, Barcelona continue to view Balde as a key long-term asset. At 22, with a long contract, the club does not see the need to pursue another left-back.

However, questions remain over how the Spaniard will respond to his current role as a substitute, particularly behind a player not a natural in that position. A strong offer could also test his situation.

Balde remains highly regarded in the Premier League, with several clubs monitoring him. Interest has previously come from Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa, while Chelsea have also tracked him in the past.

For now, however, no sale is being considered, and no new signing is also being planned.
