FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta made a public appearance at the 72nd edition of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godo.

During his visit, Laporta briefly addressed the media following the team’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night.

“I am very happy we have reached the semi-finals. Let us see who we get, whether it is Bayern or Inter,” said Laporta.

“But I am very pleased because it has been six years since we last reached this stage of the Champions League, and that is great news for Barcelona fans,” he added.

The Barça chief rejected the idea that the 3-1 defeat in Dortmund, following the 4-0 win in the first leg, was due to a physical dip.

“I am very happy with the players’ commitment, their talent, and the way they are playing. Physically we are very strong. Everything is well-prepared, well-managed, and in that respect, we are very satisfied this season,” stated Laporta.

“It is one of the areas we aimed to improve, and it is one of the key factors – although not the only one – behind our good form. We are playing very well, in a style that people enjoy, staying true to Barça’s identity and philosophy.”

When asked about Real Madrid’s upcoming second-leg match against Arsenal, in which they must overcome a 3-0 deficit from the first leg in London, Laporta declined to comment on the matter.

“Let me enjoy the semi-final. The team is doing very well and we are on track with all the objectives set for this season. I am very happy,” he concluded.
