However, according to journalist Gianluigi Longari, Alvarez’s first choice is Barcelona. The 26-year-old dreams of wearing Blaugrana and would prefer to join Flick’s team.

It has also been mentioned that a move could happen only if Atletico are willing to open the door this summer.

So far, they have rejected Barcelona’s first big bid for the talented striker and also taken to social media to mock the Catalan club over the same.

There are few forwards in the world who fit Barcelona’s style of football better than Alvarez.

The Argentine forward is extremely intelligent, knows how to operate between the lines, has an excellent finish and is also very adept without the ball at his feet.

He is intense with his pressing and can play anywhere in attack, as well as a second striker, making him an invaluable profile for Hansi Flick.

Although he may not be able to replicate Robert Lewandowski’s box presence, he more than makes up for it with his other strengths.

Without a doubt, he is capable of inheriting the No. 9 jersey from the Polish veteran and leading the line for Barcelona for the foreseeable future.

The biggest obstacle is undoubtedly the player’s club itself. Even though Alvarez favours Barcelona, Atletico have shown no signs of being open to negotiating.

Given the player’s importance and market value, any operation would likely require a huge financial commitment.

It has been a while since an Argentinian has donned the Blaugrana and played at Camp Nou, and the romanticism of this deal simply cannot be ignored by a Barcelona fan.

To sign Alvarez, Barcelona will have to bring out the chequebook this summer, and let’s wait and see if Laporta is prepared to do that to bring Flick’s dream striker target to Camp Nou.
