Barcelona realise painful truth about Julian Alvarez transfer pursuit | OneFootball

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are slowly beginning to realise that signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid this summer could become one of the toughest operations in the entire transfer market.

It is known that the Argentine forward has emerged as Barcelona’s absolute priority to strengthen the centre-forward position. 

Within the club, they see him as much more than just a goalscorer – they view him as a complete modern forward capable of transforming the frontline.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the player, Barcelona are now facing a difficult reality.

Atletico Madrid under no pressure

As such, Atletico Madrid have no intention of opening the door to negotiations and they consider Alvarez untouchable. 

The Madrid-based side is in a stable financial position following recent investment and do not feel forced to cash in on one of their most important stars.

“He’s a player who is completely untransferable and indispensable to the team,” sources from Atletico Madrid explain the situation.

That position has complicated matters significantly for Barcelona, who continue trying to keep the operation alive behind the scenes.

Meetings with the agent

Meanwhile, sporting director Deco has been speaking regularly with the player’s entourage for months. 

In an attempt to move negotiations forward, Deco recently held talks with influential intermediary Juanma Lopez, who maintains strong relationships with both Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.

Even so, those close to the discussions continue to describe the transfer as highly complicated.

Lastly, another major obstacle is Alvarez himself, as the Argentine is believed to be very happy under Diego Simeone and enjoys an excellent relationship with the Atletico coach, which further reduces the chances of an easy exit.

Because everything is working against them, Barça are aware that waiting endlessly could become risky, and for that reason, they have already started analysing alternative striker options.
