Barcelona reignite interest in versatile Juventus defender amid interest from Chelsea | OneFootball

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso is back on Barcelona’s radar after renewed interest from Chelsea prompted fresh movement around the player. 

The outlet assures that while a transfer is far from imminent, the Catalan club is believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation as they evaluate potential defensive reinforcements.

The 26-year-old was already linked with Barcelona earlier this year, but recent developments have once again brought his name into the conversation.

What’s the story?

One of the main reasons for Barcelona’s reignited interest is not just Cambiaso’s tactical flexibility, but also the fact that Chelsea are interested in signing him.

Apart from this, the fact that the Juventus defender is capable of playing on either side of the defence is another reason why Barcelona remain interested.

In a squad where versatility is increasingly valued, having a player who can operate effectively at both left-back and right-back could be a significant asset.

Reports suggest Barcelona are currently viewed as a more realistic destination for the Italian international than Chelsea, despite the Premier League club’s interest.

However, any potential operation remains complicated.

Why is that?

Cambiaso is under contract with Juventus until 2029, meaning the Serie A giants remain in a strong negotiating position. 

Earlier reports placed his valuation around €50 million, but recent information indicates that Juventus may now be willing to discuss offers closer to €40 million.

The Turin club is reportedly open to considering departures for certain players this summer as they seek to generate funds, and Cambiaso is among the names who could potentially leave if an attractive proposal arrives.

At the same time, despite the interest, Barcelona’s current squad structure means a transfer is unlikely unless space is first created in the full-back department.

On the right side, Jules Kounde remains one of the most important players in the system and continues to be a guaranteed starter when available. 

While Barcelona would listen to exceptional offers, there is no active desire to part ways with the Frenchman.

The situation on the left is also relatively stable, as Joao Cancelo is expected to continue at the club, while Alejandro Balde remains a key figure for the future.

However, if Balde were to receive serious interest or if Barcelona decided to make a major sale to balance their finances, Cambiaso’s profile would suddenly become far more relevant.
