Dani Olmo is one of the most sought-after players in Europe right now, with the Spanish playmaker poised to leave RB Leipzig this summer.

Olmo has a special release clause worth €60 million, which can be activated before July 15. His situation has put multiple top clubs on red alert including FC Barcelona.

The Catalans have been linked with a move for Olmo for a while now and may look to explore a move for the Spanish international this summer.

Barcelona face competition from Man City

However, Barcelona are set to face stern competition from major European clubs in the race to sign Dani Olmo.

According to Sky Sports (h/t ESPN), Olmo has also been linked with a move to Manchester City, who are weighing up a move for the Spanish international.

Man City are keen on shoring up their options in the creative unit, with Olmo emerging as the ideal pick due to his creative brilliance and tactical versatility in the final third.

The Premier League champions, though, are yet to make any ‘concrete’ contact with either of the parties, suggesting their pursuit of the attacker might still be in the nascent stages.

Can Barcelona sign Olmo?

From a purely financial standpoint, it is almost impossible for Barcelona to compete with Manchester City, in the race to sign Dani Olmo.

However, the Catalans may have a few factors going for them, including the fact that Olmo has appeared quite open about his return to Catalonia.

In a recent interaction, the Spaniard confirmed that a return to Barcelona is an ‘option’ for the player this summer. Olmo’s desire to return to the club could play a key role if Barça are to serious compete for the attacker.

Another key counter for the Catalans will be to reduce the salary mass, knowing the club are not in a position to register any new players, let alone Olmo.
