FC Barcelona made only three signings last summer, with the captures of Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford going on to dominate the headlines.

As such, the arrival of Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen went somewhat under the radar. In fact, it initially seemed that the young Swedish winger was destined for the reserve team.

However, the 20-year-old attacker was always going to be a part of the senior setup and his performances in the pre-season tour only served to strengthen that belief.

Barcelona pleased with Bardghji

Now, according to MARCA, Barcelona are ‘rubbing their hands’ with how things are progressing with Bardghji.

The Swedish international plays in the same position as Lamine Yamal, which limits his minutes, but he makes the most of every opportunity, which has pleased the Blaugrana.

The Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Athletic Club was a clear example as Bardghji stepped into the starting XI in place of Lamine and shone brightly, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Given Barcelona’s financial difficulties, signing Bardghji for just over €2 million was seen as an excellent piece of business, and it has proven to be so as his market value has soared, multiplying fivefold.

Indeed, according to Transfermarkt, he is now valued €10 million, despite having played only 413 minutes in a Barça shirt across all competitions.

As such, Barça are delighted not only with the financial upside of the deal, but also with his on-field contribution. Despite limited minutes, he has already recorded two goals and four assists, while his attitude and professionalism have been exemplary.

Full confidence in Bardghji

The Barça sporting management had been tracking Bardghji for a while, and Deco, together with Flick, pushed for his signing, which was also very affordable for the club’s finances.

In fact, Deco had been close to signing him for the 2024-25 season, but just as he was meeting with the player’s agents, Bardghji suffered an ACL injury.

The sporting director closely followed his recovery, staying in regular contact with his entourage, as he saw the Swede as a strong option both for the present and the future. It was key for Barça to clinch his signing amidst interest and offers from other clubs.

Flick also has full confidence in the 20-year-old and has made it clear that the winger will not leave this month on loan despite interest. Bardghji himself has never considered that option either.
