A distressing incident took place on Saturday at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, where FC Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde was subjected to racist insults from some Getafe supporters during the first half.
The defender reported the abuse to the match officials at half-time, and following his alert, the referee activated La Liga’s protocol for such situations.
Balde revealed the incident during his interaction with the media after the match, where he said:
“I have received racist insults. It happened in the first half and when the match ended, I reported it to the referee, who then activated the protocol.”
As expected, Barcelona have expressed their full support for Balde.
The Blaugrana, used their social media to stand in support of Balde, making it clear that there is no place for racism and to show their strongest condemnation of what the left-back had to endure.
“There is no place for racism. We are 100% with you, Balde,” the club posted on X, referring to the events as “repulsive” and “despicable” on their official website.
Meanwhile, the club’s backing was also conveyed by manager Hansi Flick in the post-match press conference, where he said:
“There is no place for this in football or life. It’s unbelievable. In the times we are living in now, it’s completely wrong. Those who do this should stay at home, I think we should fight them, that’s the best thing.”
The referee noted the incident in his official match report and it remains to be seen what actions are take against the perpetrators.
