Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has opened up on his disappointment with the level of performance put forth by he and his teammates in the club’s latest outing.
Barcelona were of course back in action on Tuesday evening.
Shifting focus back towards matters on the continent, the Blaugrana made the trip to Germany, for the 2nd leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Borussia Dortmund.
Hansi Flick’s troops headed into the matchup aware that their place in the competition’s final four was all but secured, owing to a 4-0 rout in the tie’s opener in Catalunya’s capital last week.
And yet, the underwhelming nature of the showing produced by a strong Barca XI at Signal Iduna Park nevertheless came as a surprise.
The La Liga leaders badly struggled over the course of the 90 minutes, with star performers the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha having toiled in their efforts to make an impact.
And one fellow member of Flick’s ranks who could not hide his disappointment with as much post-match was Frenkie de Jong.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Dortmund, midfielder De Jong admitted:
“We were horrible today.”
