Barcelona star emerges as doubt to face Benfica after missing training | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has seen his status for the club’s upcoming meeting with Benfica thrown into doubt.

The player in question? Gavi.

Youngster Gavi played no part on Sunday, as Barcelona made short work of Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Speaking to the media post-match, Hansi Flick revealed that as much came with the 20-year-old having been suffering with a bout of illness.

And, on Monday, Gavi is yet to recover.

As confirmed by Blaugrana insider Toni Juanmartí of Diario Sport, the midfielder played no part in the recovery training session at The Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper this afternoon.

Gavi is nevertheless expected to be part of the travelling party bound for Portugal to face Benfica on Wednesday night.

Whether the Spanish international is actually cleared to play his part at The Estádio da Luz, however, remains to be seen.
