FC Barcelona have only made one major signing this summer, and that was the arrival of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. Arriving from the English Premier League, the English forward is so far the only addition to Hansi Flick’s talented squad this summer.

Having splurged a rather significant sum, sources claim that the total package is around €80 million, Barça really seem to value what Gordon brings to the team. Thus, it makes sense as to why other players of the team are going to be asked about the signing as well.

Pau Cubarsi, as quoted by SPORT, was asked about this particular signing as well. While commenting on the possibility of Julian Alvarez potentially joining the club, Cubarsi gave a nod to the English forward as well.

This prompted another subsequent question asking him exactly why he likes the player’s arrival and what he could bring to the team, to which Cubarsi gave an answer backed by his understanding of Gordon’s best qualities:

“Yes, we played against him in the Champions League. I haven’t watched him every week in the Premier League, but he’s a very intense player, covers a lot of ground, and works hard for the team. That’s very important.”

As for his immediate objective, the Barcelona and Spanish defender made it clear that his team was looking to top Group H at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a good result in their upcoming game against Uruguay:

“Yes. You always want to win everything and finish first. If you have a strong group stage, your path through the tournament becomes more favourable.”

Gordon and England, on the other hand, were held to a 0-0 draw against Ghana in their most recent game. However, the new Barcelona signing and his English teammates are still leading Group L and will be looking to get a win in their next game against Panama as well.
