Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny opened the door for teammate Marc-André ter Stegen to take over starting duties in the club’s most recent outing.
This came as a gesture of good will on the part of the Pole.
Hansi Flick of course sprung a major surprise earlier this week, in opting for Marc-André ter Stegen to take his place between the posts for Barcelona’s Copa del Rey meeting with Guadalajara.
The widespread understanding is that, at this point, Wojciech Szczęsny is the no.2 in the Blaugrana’s squad.
It therefore turned heads across Catalunya’s capital upon the former Arsenal and Juventus man being left on the bench, whilst Joan García was afforded a rest.
As alluded to above, though, playing a direct role in as much was Szczęsny himself.
All of the 35-year-old, Ter Stegen and Hansi Flick are understood to have sat down for a meeting in the hours leading up to kick-off on Tuesday.
And as per a report from Diario Sport:
‘Szczesny spoke to explain that Ter Stegen, in his capacity as captain and after a long injury, deserved to play.’
