Barcelona star Fermin Lopez was enjoying fine start to the season after rumours swirling around his future at the club. However coming on against Getafe, his fortunes have taken a grave turn.
While the Blaugrana’s 3-0 victory over Los Azulones was notable for its unremarkable nature for the most part, many missed the fact that Lopez sunk to the floor, reportedly complaining with pain in his left leg. On Monday he returned to Barcelona’s training ground to undergo medical tests.
According to Diario AS, the most likely course of action is that Lopez misses Barcelona’s trip to face Real Oviedo at the Nuevo Carlos Tartiere, and the visit of Real Sociedad to the Estadi Johan Cruyff next weekend. He joins an already weighty injury list, which includes Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gavi, Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal.

Lopez’s disappointment was palpable after the game, with the 22-year-old heading to the dressing room in tears. Cadena Cope add that the initial tests carried out after the game gave little cause for optimism on the matter, and that the dressing room were concerned about it. Manager Hansi Flick did not give any more details on the injury, noting that ‘we’ll have to wait and see’.
Barcelona will be heavy favourites against Oviedo and La Real, but the following week they face Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster Champions League clash. Fermin will also be a serious doubt for that game, and before the October international break, the Blaugrana travel to Seville to face Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Dani Olmo is the obvious replacement for Lopez, while Flick has also used Raphinha there this season. Pedri could also move forward, and youngsters Dro Fernandez and Toni Fernandez could also play there.
