Barcelona star will spend this season ‘trying to earn’ a new contract | OneFootball

A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona intends to make use of the season ahead to secure for himself an extension to his expiring contract terms.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Andreas Christensen as the player in question.

Stopper Christensen was for his part of course widely expected to depart Catalunya’s capital over the summer.

This came after Deco made clear that there was an overbooking at the heart of Hansi Flick’s defence.

In the end, however, it was Iñigo Martínez who made the call to depart, meaning Christensen was rather abruptly taken off the market.

The Dane for his part made clear throughout the saga that his intention was to stay put and fight for his place.

And now, an insight into precisely why has been provided.

As per a report from Sport, after Christensen was afforded his first start of the new season at Rayo Vallecano last time out:

‘Despite the interest this summer, he was clear he wanted to continue, to hurry up this last year of his contract. And try to earn a renewal.’

The former Chelsea man’s current terms are due to expire in the summer of 2026.
