Mallorca and Barcelona have engaged in good business this summer, first with the transfer of Pablo Torre and more recently the imminent move of Jan Virgili.

A third young star now appears to be closing in on a move to Jagoba Arrasate’s side, and it is none other than Hector Fort, the young defender Barcelona have been trying to sell all summer as a solution to their economic problems.

In recent hours, it has come to light that the youngster will likely leave on a loan deal, with Mallorca almost guaranteed to be his destination. The deal, however, is not 100% closed.

One key detail

As relayed in a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Deco’s recent meetings with Mallorca have gone well, and the deal for Fort is well-placed to go through. The only factor that keeps it pending, however, is the departure of Pablo Maffeo from La Palma.

The team’s current right-back has been linked with an exit this summer and even has an offer on his table from Atletico Miniero that he is seriously considering. His departure holds the key to Fort’s transfer as the Barcelona star is seen to be a direct replacement.

As it stands, the La Masia star does have other options on his table to choose from should Maffeo’s departure not work out this season, and it remains to be seen if he is pushed far enough to consider that interest.

The 19-year-old right-back made 17 appearances for Barcelona last season in La Liga but just racked up five starts. In his time on the field during the competition, he averaged close to two recoveries and over three defensive actions per game.

His departure may not be enough for Barcelona to immediately register the unregistered names but it will undoubtedly bring them a step closer to that objective. The coming days will be key in his regard.
