FC Barcelona secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Celta Vigo last night in a match marked by concern as Lamine Yamal and Joao Cancelo had to be withdrawn with injuries in the first half.
Beyond that, there was another major controversy involving the referees in the second half, as has become the recent trend with games involving Barça.
Ten minutes into the second half, Ferran Torres scored a spectacular volley from a pass by Pedri. The ball struck the crossbar before going into the net past the Celta goalkeeper.
However, the VAR disallowed the goal for offside, cutting the forward’s celebrations short.
The replays raised doubts, as Ferran appeared to be level with Marcos Alonso. Regardless, the goal did not stand, with the decision coming down to a matter of millimetres.
The decision angered Ferran, who did not hold back. After the match, the forward posted two screenshots on his Instagram profile expressing his frustration with the decision made by Carlos del Cerro Grande, who was the VAR on the night.
One image was from the match against Celta and the other from the recent derby against RCD Espanyol, where another of his goals had been disallowed in a nearly identical situation.

The Barcelona star used irony and delivered a pointed message: he accompanied the images with a “What an eye!” and directly tagged the accounts of La Liga and Javier Tebas, even though VAR decisions and refereeing are overseen by the CTA and the RFEF.
Torres’s frustration over these two marginal decisions has reignited the debate around VAR decisions, with those close to Barcelona believing the team is being excessively penalised.
The injured Cancelo also joined the complaints, sharing his disbelief on social media by posting a replay of the incident.
Head coach Hansi Flick also addressed the controversy after the match, saying: “My feeling is that it’s a goal. I’d like an explanation as to why it’s offside.
“I don’t understand why VAR decided it wasn’t a goal. These things worry me. The referee and the fourth official would see it the same way I do. They’ve made a decision, but we have to accept it. I don’t want to make excuses.”
