FC Barcelona have one of the best scouting networks in the world, which allows them to keep abreast of the most promising talents emerging throughout the world.
This is particularly the case in South America, where Paulo Araujo has been handling the Blaugrana club’s scouting affairs, and has been successful in uncovering some very interesting talents for the Catalans.
One such talent who has intrigued Barcelona for quite some time now is the full-back Wesley França, whom the Blaugranes wanted to incorporate on a loan with a purchase option some years ago, but were unable to reach an agreement with the Brazilian side Flamengo.
According to SPORT, the Catalans are still monitoring him, in more detail than any other club, and he is one of the players on the list of candidates being analysed in depth by their technical secretariat as they continue to look to strengthen their flanks.
This is Wesley’s third year as a starter at Flamengo, and at 21 years of age, he has shown particular growth in the last two years and has already won two titles with Flamengo, the 2024 and 2025 Copa do Brasil.
His market valuation has also increased significantly, currently standing at €9 million, but the Brazilians are looking to sell him for no less than €35 million.
He is also expected to make his way to the senior Brazil team in the next call-up, which will not really be an easy one for the Selecao as they will be facing tough teams like Colombia and Argentina for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Flamengo are also expected to look to sell this prized asset in the next summer transfer window and aim to make him one of their three most expensive sales, after Vinicius Junior, for whom Real Madrid paid €45 million, and Lucas Paqueta, for whom AC Milan paid €38.4 million. Thus, he will be sold for more than the €30 million that the Merengues paid for Reinier Jesus.
There are several Premier League teams who are willing to reach the sum demanded by Flamengo. Meanwhile, Barcelona will continue to monitor him, especially considering the fact that they can get other similar players for a better price from the European market.
