Ferran Torres’ performances have been one of the highlights for Barcelona in these early parts of the new season.
The forward is currently the club’s top scorer with two goals in two games. The striker, operating as a number nine in the absence of Robert Lewandowski, has shown a vast improvement in his game.
This has been reflected in his on-field performances, and may have far-reaching consequences as far as the balance of the Barcelona team is concerned.
According to Diario AS, Deco and the Barcelona sporting management are seriously considering giving Ferran Torres a much bigger role this season.
With Robert Lewandowski entering what could be his final season at the club, the board is not prioritising a new striker for 2026, largely because of Ferran’s strong adaptation to the No. 9 role.
The “Shark” has earned his chance with goals in successive matches against Mallorca and Levante, showing his efficiency in front of goal.

Lewandowski, who returned from injury in the Levante game, came on in the closing stages.
While one would have naturally expected the Pole to start in the next game against Rayo Vallecano, the report suggests that won’t be the case.
As things stand, Ferran will continue to start for Barcelona in the Vallecano game, and Lewandowski’s return won’t change that equation at all.
This is quite significant and suggests that Ferran is not just filling in for Lewandowski anymore but rather staking a claim in Barcelona’s number nine position for the years to come.
It will be interesting to see how this works out for Lewandowski, who is already coming on the back of a tough summer that witnessed some bit of drama with the Polish national team.
