Barcelona has officially announced that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has been temporarily relieved of his duties as first team captain pending the outcome of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
In a statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed that the decision was made in mutual agreement with the sporting director and the coaching staff.
Vice-captain Ronald Araújo will assume the captaincy during this period.
Tensions between Ter Stegen and the club’s management have been high recently, particularly regarding medical decisions and player registration matters, with the German refusing to allow his fitness report to be shared with LaLiga.
Reactions on social media have been mixed. While some supporters have called for patience and trust in the club’s internal process, others have criticised the board's handling of the situation.
