Barcelona took home three points against an inspired Athletic Club last night to take their tally in La Liga to six points in two games. The big takeaway from the game, however, was the continued unavailability of the team’s new signing Dani Olmo.

The attacking midfielder sat out of the Catalans’ league opener against Valencia last weekend and was expected to be registered with La Liga in time for the second game of the season.

While the administration tried hard until the last minute, Barcelona failed to get the new signing registered in time and thus forced him to sit out in the second game in a row.

Olmo getting worried

Despite Barcelona painting a colourful picture of their financial situation earlier in the transfer window, however, it is now clear that the reality is far from what was projected.

According to reports from AS, Olmo and his entourage are now beginning to get worried about his situation at the club.

After all, he is still unregistered in the league despite Barcelona being at the doorstep of their third game.

The Blaugrana take on Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday and it is still unclear if Olmo will make it in time to participate on the night. Needless to say, the pressure is on the administration at this point.

Sales galore

Barcelona’s struggles to register Olmo are primarily down to the lack of space on the wage bill and the management is thus throwing the kitchen sink to lower the salaries at this point.

The sale of Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City followed by the departure of Mikayil Faye are all part of the club’s operation to achieve the same. In the latter’s case, his departure provides no relief as he was not registered on the first-team bill.

The sales of Vitor Roque and Clement Lenglet, needless to say, will prove instrumental in enabling Olmo’s registration in the coming days. It is, however, still unclear if the two aforementioned operations will suffice or if the club must look to enable further sales.
