Barcelona will have their task cut out as they play hosts to Newcastle United at Camp Nou this coming week.
The game will serve as the second leg of their Round of 16 clash, after the first leg at St. James’ Park ended in a draw.
While the stakes are at an all-time high for Hansi Flick’s men, the club is also preparing to send a powerful message of solidarity and inclusion to a global audience.
According to The Touchline, Barcelona are set to debut a special kit for World Down Syndrome Day against Newcastle United.
The defining feature of this kit is its unique typeface, which was designed by Anna Vives, a talented young Catalan artist who has Down Syndrome.
The initiative, promoted by the Barça Foundation, aims to highlight the value of diversity and promote social inclusion.
It marks a historic milestone for the club and the competition, as it will be the first time an inclusive typography of this nature is used in a UEFA Champions League match.
The collaboration is a central part of the Foundation’s broader campaign to raise awareness for Down Syndrome.
The “Anna” typography is a striking departure from the rigid, block-style lettering typically seen on professional football kits.
It is a handwritten font characterised by its organic, slightly irregular lines that convey a sense of warmth and human touch.
