Barcelona are working ’round the clock in order to ensure the transfer of Nico Williams.

The club are facing a strong pushback from Athletic Club, who are determined to block the move. The two clubs, in fact, are now in all-out war.

Barcelona, though, already have an agreement in place with Nico and only need to pay the €62 million release clause. They would also need to ensure the registration of the player.

Nico makes one request to Barcelona

In the midst of all this, Diario SPORT suggests that Nico Williams has made one key request to the Barcelona management.

It appears the Spanish international has asked the club to accelerate the operation and finalise his signing before July 9.

This specific date is crucial as it marks the start of Athletic Club’s pre-season training.

Nico is desperate to avoid the immense pressure and speculation that would come with having to rejoin the Basque squad while his high-profile move to Barça remains unresolved.

Having already informed Athletic of his desire to leave, he wants a clean break, without having to think about the tension between Barcelona and Athletic Club.

Barcelona understand the player’s position and have committed to doing everything possible to meet his deadline.

The club have the financial muscle to pay the €62 million release clause, but the primary hurdle remains securing a guarantee from LaLiga that they can register him safely.

The board is working closely with the league on this, but it will require generating more salary margin. The sale of key players, therefore, could be critical as far as the Nico transfer saga is concerned.
