Barcelona unlikely to increase their offer for dream striker target – Report | OneFootball

FC Barcelona remain interested in Julian Alvarez, but the club will not allow that admiration to turn into an irresponsible transfer pursuit.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have no intention of improving the €100 million offer submitted to Atletico Madrid at the end of May, even though Hansi Flick would still welcome another elite centre-forward.

Atletico have shown no desire to negotiate with Barcelona and continue to resist the idea of selling their star forward to a direct domestic rival.

Alvarez publicly indicated during the World Cup that he had requested a transfer, but the situation remains extremely difficult. Atletico would prefer to discuss deals with Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain rather than open talks with Barca.

Barcelona, however, do not feel under pressure. Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have already strengthened the attack following the end of Marcus Rashford’s loan spell, giving Flick more speed, directness and flexibility across the front line.

Ferran Torres can operate as a centre-forward, while Dani Olmo and Raphinha are also capable of playing centrally in different tactical systems. None offers exactly the same profile as Alvarez, but together they give the coach enough options to avoid a panic purchase.

Patience is the correct approach

Alvarez would be an outstanding long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. His movement, pressing and ability to combine outside the penalty area fit naturally with the style of football Flick wants Barcelona to play.

However, the price and the seller matter. Barca cannot afford to exceed their limit simply because the player is an ideal target, especially when Atletico are refusing to engage constructively for negotiations.

The next move may have to come from Alvarez himself when he returns to Madrid on August 10. There is a good chance the forward doesn’t report for training on the said date. Even then, Barcelona should maintain their position.

The interest is real, the offer is already enormous and the sporting fit is obvious. However, unless Atletico change their stance, Barca should trust the attacking depth they have already assembled and wait for a better opportunity rather than turn a dream signing into a financial mistake.
