According to Spanish newspaper Sport, FC Barcelona have reached a new formula to sign Spanish winger Nico Williams, although negotiations between the two clubs have gone badly wrong in recent times due to Barcelona's insistence on breaking the Spanish star's contract and bringing him to the Camp Nou to play alongside his friend Lamine Yamal from 2025.
However, it seems that Barcelona want to pay the €60 million penalty clause this weekend to finalise the deal. Barcelona's Portuguese sporting director, Deco, believes that the conditions are now favourable to sign the player permanently and bring him to the team.
Barcelona want to sign the player as soon as possible to avoid any further complications.
A week ago, press reports revealed that Nico Williams wanted assurances from FC Barcelona that they would be able to register him upon his arrival at the club, overcoming the issue that his compatriot Dani Olmo faced upon his arrival.
The guarantee that Barcelona gave Nico Williams was in the form of a clause in his contract that allowed him to negotiate with any team he wanted if his contract with Barcelona was not finalised.
The clause, which will be activated in Nico Williams' contract with Barcelona, will give any team the right to negotiate with the player if he is not registered with the Catalan club in any case, and the player will also have the right to negotiate with a new team of his choice without referring to Barcelona in case of such an issue.
