FC Barcelona is expected to lose Inigo Martinez this summer. Recent reports have clarified that much, and the club will now need to figure out an alternative plan. While a new signing is not guaranteed, it is not completely ruled out either.
According to a recent update provided by SPORT, Barça seems to have a very specific profile in mind if they are to sign a new player. For starters, the player would have to be left-footed and also a defensive profile.

The club is reportedly looking for a left-footed central defender who can also operate as a full-back. However, the deal would need to be a financially viable one, considering that the club is already dealing with some limitations in that regard.
Yet, the report claims that offers continue to pile up for Barça with Martinez’s departure, but the club is still to find a suitable option. However, it is true that Hansi Flick has always wanted to reinforce the full-back position and this could now be an opportunity to do so.
Moreover, Barça would reportedly only move for a player who can offer a high enough quality to contribute to the squad. Until and unless both the financial and quality-based demands are met, La Blaugrana will not be moving for any player.
For now, the club has Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Pau Cubarsi, and Eric Garcia as centre-back options. Among them, there is not a single left-footed player and that is why the club is looking specifically for a player who possesses that trait.
At the same time, however, a player who has that trait is Gerard Martin. Interestingly, he was tested out by Hansi Flick during preseason as a centre-back, and the Spaniard proved that he could play in that position and offers a kind of versatility that Flick seems to admire.
