Barcelona has successfully overturned a significant hurdle ahead of their crucial European trip to Newcastle, as manager Hansi Flick and his assistant Markus Sorg have had their immediate one-match bans suspended following a successful appeal to UEFA.
The reprieve, however, comes with strict conditions. European football's governing body has effectively placed the coaches on a one-year probationary period, meaning any further misconduct could instantly reinstate the suspension. While they have escaped a sideline exile for now, the financial penalty for their actions stands firm, with both men required to pay individual fines of €20,000.
The original sanctions stemmed from a fiery semifinal clash against Inter in Milan, after which a visibly frustrated Flick launched a fierce public critique against referee Szymon Marciniak. The Barcelona boss had vehemently argued that the Polish official's performance was overwhelmingly one-sided, asserting that a succession of key decisions consistently favored the Italian opposition.
