Youngster Torre, for his part, was this evening afforded a first-ever starting berth for Barcelona, in La Liga.

As much comes amid efforts on the part of boss Hansi Flick to afford some much-needed rest to some of the regular members of his first-choice XI.

And Torre, to his credit, has since gone on to justify his inclusion, and then some.

With 20 minutes on the clock in Barca’s meeting with Villarreal, the 21-year-old conjured up the most sumptuous of assists, playing the ball delicately through the legs of an opposing defender to pick out the surging Robert Lewandowski.

And the latter made no mistake with his ensuing finish, slotting home at the near post with aplomb, to guide the evening’s visitors into an early lead at El Madrigal.
