Barcelona may have to negotiate the continuity of Marcus Rashford with Manchester United, if they are keen to keep him. Recent weeks have seen speculation over the England international’s future grow, and it seems increasingly unlikely that he will return to Camp Nou next season.
Reports in recent weeks have claimed that Barcelona are considering alternative options that could be cheaper than Rashford in order to cover the left-wing position next season. Part of the reason was the combined cost of his €30m buy option and his salary, with Manchester United unwilling to lower their asking price. Now Cadena SER report that Barcelona’s buy option on Rashford expired on the 31st of March, meaning they no longer have control over the situation, and making his situation uncertain.
Nevertheless, this news has been denied by Rashford’s agents. Sport say they have been in contact with his camp, and they maintain that this is not the case. In spite of this, the Catalan paper claim that Barcelona do not intend to use it this summer.
Barcelona would be keen on bringing back Rashford under the right conditions, but it seems improbable that this will transpire. The Blaugrana would be open to a second loan deal for Rashford, but United are vehemently against this idea and will look for a permanent exit. If anything, the word is that the Red Devils are likely to raise their demands.
Last summer, Aston Villa attempted to make his loan deal permanent, but Rashford held out for a move to Barcelona, forcing Manchester United’s hand somewhat. This time round, he may have more options. AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are supposedly keeping a close eye on developments in case he should be available.
