Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres is on cloud nine after scoring the winning goal for Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

He has since been given a hero’s welcome upon his return to the country, earning a lot of love and respect wherever he goes.

For someone who has been ridiculed as much as Ferran has throughout his career, the moment in New Jersey has been truly career-changing for him.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Ferran is set to take on a new role away from the pitch after being appointed as an official ambassador for the Valencian Community.

Ferran to represent Valencia worldwide

Ferran will formally sign a collaboration agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana on Friday at the Palau de la Generalitat.

The partnership will see the Barcelona attacker help promote the Valencian Community both nationally and internationally through a series of institutional and promotional initiatives.

According to the regional government, the agreement aims to showcase Valencia’s cultural, sporting, social and territorial attractions by working alongside one of its most recognisable global ambassadors.

The Generalitat described him as one of Valencia’s most internationally recognised athletes, highlighting not only his footballing achievements but also the values he represents, including hard work, perseverance, humility, resilience and pride in his roots.

Homecoming continues

Having come through the ranks and made a name for himself in Valencia, Ferran has repeatedly reiterated his love for the region.

Even after moving to clubs like Manchester City and Barcelona, the 26-year-old has often been seen carrying Valencia on his jersey, particularly during the disastrous floods some time ago.

Following the official ceremony, Ferran will return to his hometown of Foios, where he is due to receive a public tribute from the local council.

The municipality has already celebrated its hometown hero by displaying a large banner thanking him for his contribution to Spain’s World Cup success.

Barcelona future remains in limbo

While Ferran’s stock is at the highest it has ever been in his career, his future at Barcelona is far from certain.

French giants PSG are interested in signing him, and the Spaniard has left his future open, admitting that anything could happen.

Ferran has also put the onus on Barça to come forward, negotiate and show how much they truly care for him to stay at the Catalan club.

Barça need to make a decision on the Spaniard’s future very soon. Ferran is expected to return to training under Hansi Flick some time next week.

The club will be keen to either renew his contract or sell him if he desires to leave, and it remains to be seen where Ferran is playing his football next season.
