Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou has served as a major blessing for the club, who have been in top form and is looking like the team to beat right.
Having already played multiple games at Camp Nou, with a total seat capacity of just over 45,000, Barcelona’s next plan was to open up the north stand, which would have increased the total capacity to 62,000 seats.
However, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo suggests that Barcelona’s plans to reopen the North Stand at Camp Nou could be delayed.
This could shatter Barça’s hopes of playing in front of a 62,000-seater Camp Nou on January 25, when they take on Oviedo and January 28, when they play hosts to FC Copenhagen.
The delay is being caused by the Barcelona City Council asking for more detailed documentation surrounding the North Stand and how the club have organised all the necessary infrastructure.

The report suggests Barcelona may have to wait until mid-February or even late February to get the North Stand at the Camp Nou reopened.
That means the Catalans are set to continue at a 45,000-seater Camp Nou for matches against Mallorca on the weekend of February 7-8. They will also have to play the smaller capacity Camp Nou in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals and semifinals.
The first match where Barça may play in front of a 62,000-seater Camp Nou could be the Villarreal one on February 21-22.
The second leg of a hypothetical Champions League knockout playoff could also be played in front of 62,000 fans.
But taking the worst-case scenario, things will have to go very wrong for Barcelona not to be in front of a reopened North Stand on February 28th or March 1st.
