Anthony Gordon gave Eddie Howe’s side the lead in the 118th minute, but Marcus Tavernier equalised for the Cherries in the dying embers of the contest. The clash finished 3-3 after extra time.

Newcastle ended up winning the tie on penalties after they emerged victorious in the shootout by a 7-6 margin.

Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player fared during the clash against the Cherries.

GK: Aaron Ramsdale – 8/10

Ramsdale made a lot of crucial saves at the back, but still ended up conceding three goals today.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 6/10

He was far from convincing when defending inside his half and offered very little going forward.

CB: Malick Thiaw – 7.5/10

Thiaw did his fair share of defending and managed to score his penalty in the shootout.

CB: Sven Botman – 6.5/10

He cleared his lines when he could and was a threat at the other end of the field. However, Botman made a poor error at the back.

He earned possession back once and made two decent runs with the ball.

CM: Joe Willock – 6/10

Willock struggled to get a foothold in the game but made one good chance in the final third.

RW: Yoane Wissa – 6.5/10

He was not shy of having a strike at goal but failed to get his name on the scoresheet.

ST: Nick Woltemade – 7/10

Woltemade engineered some decent chances for others around him in the final third and has got an assist to show for his efforts.

LW: Harvey Barnes – 9/10

He was a constant menace in the final third and managed to score a brace for the Magpies today. Barnes also converted his penalty in the shootout and deserves to be named the man of the match.

RB: Lewis Miley – 7/10

Miley managed to shine at times on the right flank and scored his penalty as well.
