West Brom have signed 22-year-old Barney Stewart from Falkirk for £1.3m on a four-year deal, and the striker says he is confident he can carry over his scoring touch to the Championship.
“I come to life around the box and that’s my speciality. I’m very confident I can score goals here at the Albion, just like I did last year for Dunfermline and Falkirk,” he told WBA TV.
The Scotland under-21 international made his professional debut for Falkirk in January 2025 after being spotted playing as an amateur for Heriot Watt University. He scored twice in 16 appearances in their promotion-winning campaign, then joined local rivals Dunfermline on loan under Neil Lennon, scoring eight in 12.
On returning to Falkirk in January, he struck his first senior hat-trick against Hibernian, added a brace in a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock, and registered further league goals against Aberdeen, St Mirren and Motherwell.
He ended his first full professional season with 19 goals, including 10 for Falkirk after his recall, and was named the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year.
Fellow Scot James Morrison has made Stewart his first Albion signing, and the forward is eager to work under him. “From what I have heard, he’s got great plans and great aspirations for me.”
“I’m so excited by the challenge of playing in the Championship. To be part of the division will be incredible.”
