Alvaro Barreal has been registered on the CBF’s BID, clearing him to be named by Santos in the Paulistão. The Argentine could feature against Palmeiras on Wednesday 14 at 19:30 at Arena Barueri, having missed the opener against Novorizontino.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos have now completed his permanent signing following the end of his loan from FC Cincinnati at the end of 2025, with paperwork delayed by the holiday recess. The club maintained there were no issues on their side, noting Cincinnati had already confirmed the transfer in a social media post on 17 December.
During the wait, Barreal trained at CT Rei Pelé under head coach Vojvoda. The permanent deal required him to reach 55% of matches and involved a four million dollar fee.
He ended last season as Santos’ top scorer in the Brasileirão, scoring nine in 40 appearances.
Barreal’s 2025 campaign began late after inguinal hernia surgery, and his first Paulistão minutes came on 23 February in the 3-0 win at Inter de Limeira at the Limeirão. He featured in the semi-final defeat to Corinthians under Caixinha, then had one Copa do Brasil game with Cleber Xavier before becoming a regular in the league and remaining so under Vojvoda.
Barreal is 25 and from Buenos Aires.
