According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos were fined R$ 9,000 by the STJD for lateness in their 3-0 loss to Coritiba, and Barreal was only cautioned. The sixth disciplinary commission delivered its ruling on Thursday 21.
The 16th-round match at Neo Química Arena on 17 May finished 3-0 to Coritiba. The referee recorded a seven-minute delay to the entrance protocol, a five-minute late kick-off and a four-minute late restart caused by Santos.
At 28 minutes of the second half, the referee showed Barreal, number 22, a straight red for a tackle with excessive force on number 77, Breno Henrique Vasconcelos Lopes. Dr Heitor presented video of the incident, downplayed the Argentine’s challenge and sought the smallest sanction for the delay.
The panel comprised president José Dutra Júnior, prosecutor Marco Lara and auditors José Luiz Fereira de Souza, Aline Jatany and Eduardo Xible Salles Ramos. Jatany proposed the sanctions, which the others supported.
Santos were charged under CBJD article 206, which punishes delays at kick-off or restart with fines of R$ 100 to R$ 1,000 per minute. Barreal faced article 254, paragraph one, item II, on violent play, carrying a suspension of one to six matches and covering reckless actions.
Earlier this year, the STJD also fined Santos for delays against Palmeiras, Remo, Bahia and Flamengo, issued warnings to staff after dismissals and dissent, and punished the club over objects thrown against Atlético-MG and crowd trouble behind Palmeiras’ bench.
