A Bastia supporter faces an immediate trial after a flare struck Red Star defender Bradley Danger during a Ligue 2 match on 5 December in Bastia. According to L'Équipe, Danger chose not to pursue legal action, while Sporting want the fan held solely responsible. The hearing is due this Monday afternoon.
On the night, 71 pyrotechnic devices, including 39 agricultural bombs, were lit to mark the club’s 120th anniversary and the opening of the new East Petrignani ultras stand. Bastia now fear a heavy fine and a sporting sanction.
Kick-off was delayed by two minutes to clear smoke from stroboscopes sent into the penalty area. In the 57th minute Danger was hit on the shoulder, and the game was halted.
All parties were initially ready to resume, but after Bastia questioned the injury, Red Star said Danger and his team-mates would not return. The injury was minor, a red mark was visible, but the contact was not disputed.
Bastia rapidly filed a complaint, and the LFP also became a civil party. CCTV images allowed investigators to identify Joao P., an SCB ultra and bar manager, who attended the police station when contacted.
He previously, in 2024, accidentally fired a rocket onto the stadium roof. He told investigators he did not aim at anyone, called it a desperate act he regretted, and said flares were pre-placed for a coordinated ignition around the 60th minute, advertised by leaflets.
He said he could not recall who organised it. The club plans to be a civil party and seek a deferral on civil damages until the LFP disciplinary ruling on 22 December.
