Bayer Leverkusen have earmarked Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz, as per reports.
Garnacho was seen as United’s winger for the next decade when Erik ten Hag was in charge of the side, but his short spell under Ruben Amorim has divided opinion among fans.
As a wide playmaker, the Argentine often finds himself in dangerous areas but his decision making and end product let him down frequently.
Against Olympique Lyonnais, the 20-year-old had the opportunity to put the game to bed at 2-0 but he missed a sitter after doing the majority of the work.
Garnacho faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford heading into the summer, but it seems over in Leverkusen, key figures are convinced he is ready to spearhead their attack.
According to Fichajes, Xabi Alonso has asked for Garnacho’s signing to replace Wirtz.
The Germany international is expected to depart Leverkusen this summer, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City pursuing his signature.
The Bundesliga outfit have started making plans for the future without their talisman, who has notched 15 goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
It is claimed that the Spanish manager is determined to sign Garnacho and has already informed the Leverkusen board that he considers the United academy product “the ideal replacement.”
Despite question marks over his decision-making, the United forward has impressively amassed 10 goals and nine assists in 50 appearances for the Mancunians and certainly has the potential to thrive in a suitable environment.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Leverkusen have approached Garnacho’s representatives ahead of the summer.
Alonso’s priority target is also being chased by Atletico Madrid and Chelsea so it is not going to be an easy pursuit for the German giants.
