Bayer Leverkusen vs PSG – Match Preview and Team News

  1. Date: Tuesday, 21st October.
  2. Kick-off: 8pm BST.
  3. Venue: BayArena, Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen Team News

Leverkusen’s coach, Kasper Hjulmand, is facing multiple injuries. Exequiel Palacios is currently sidelined with a groin strain, while Nathan Tella and Jarell Quansah are both dealing with persistent knee problems that keep them out of contention.

Adding to the list of defensive woes, Axel Tape-Kobrissa is a doubt for the Tuesday fixture as he struggles with a hamstring niggle. Up front, the team will almost certainly be without forward Patrik Schick, who is grappling with a thigh strain. However, Martin Terrier made his return from a long-term lay-off with a late winner against Mainz at the weekend.

On a brighter note for the German side, striker Christian Michel Kofane is in superb form, having scored in his last three consecutive appearances across all tournaments. Notably, he scored against PSV on the second Champions League matchday.

PSG Team News

Over in the PSG camp, the injury situation is gradually improving, although key players are still missing. The reigning Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembele, is close to overcoming a hamstring strain and could be included in the matchday squad for their trip to Leverkusen. However, Joao Neves remains likely unavailable due to the same hamstring issue.

Captain Marquinhos is a major doubt as he battles a sore thigh, while Fabian Ruiz is recovering from a hip issue that may prevent him from earning his 50th career appearance in the Champions League.

PSG’s previous group stage encounter saw dramatic late heroics: Senny Mayulu scored the crucial equaliser against Barcelona, before Goncalo Ramos struck in the 90th minute. Ramos became only the second player to score a last-minute UCL winner against the Spanish side.

Form

Bayer Leverkusen

The German side’s recent form is strong, remaining undefeated in their last eight outings. Key domestic wins over Union Berlin and St Pauli have kept their Bundesliga title challenge alive.

Their ability to secure results at home makes them a difficult prospect; they have scored in every match at the BayArena this season. However, their Champions League campaign has started slowly, with consecutive draws against PSV and Copenhagen.

PSG

PSG’s recent results have been mixed, highlighted by consecutive domestic draws against Strasbourg (3-3) and Lille (1-1). They are currently sitting in second position in the Ligue 1 table; their performances have been less consistent than their early European results might suggest. In the Champions League, PSG have shown flashes of brilliance, with commanding wins which include their last UCL win against Barcelona (2-1).

Predicted Lineups

Bayer Leverkusen: Flekken; Andrich, Bade, Belocian; Arthur, Garcia, Fernandez, Grimaldo; Maza, Poku; Kofane.

PSG: Chevalier; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Pacho, Mendes; Kang-in, Vitinha, Doue; Kvaratskhelia, Ramos, Barcola.
