According to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen are working hard on extending Florian Wirtz’s contract in an attempt to keep him at the club beyond next summer.

It’s been widely reported that some of Europe’s top clubs including Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich will try to sign the 21-year-old next summer.

In recent weeks, Bayern Munich have been tipped as the club most likely to sign the German international.

As reported by GGFN, Wirtz is said to prefer a move to Bavaria rather than a move away from the Bundesliga next summer.

Currently contracted until 2027, B04 would demand at least €100m for their star player.

B04 Fighting For Wirtz

The latest developments indicate that B04 are working around the clock to extend Wirtz’s contract until at least 2028.

As per the report, Wirtz and his party are open to potentially staying in Leverkusen for one more season at least but Champions League football is crucial to the deal.

Leverkusen’s plan is to keep Wirtz until after the 2026 World Cup. At the age of 21, any future deal for Wirtz wouldn’t lessen in terms of fees.

This, it appears, is the B04 plan.

Wirtz’s father, who also acts as his agent, isn’t pushing for a big money move right away. This has always been clear from his comments. Instead, his father has also put his son’s development first. This could help in terms of B04’s plans to keep Wirtz for another one-to-two years.
