The results of two Sunday MRIs involving Bayer Leverkusen players are in. Lead striker Patrik Schick has suffered a fascia injury in his left thigh and will remain out throughout the October international break. Bayer captain Robert Andrich’s adductor injury thankfully doesn’t feature any structural damage, but the B04 skipper’s status remains day-to-day. Leverkusen have one Champions League fixture and one Bundesliga match to contest before the break.
Schick’s presumed replacement for the next two games is 19-year-old lead striker Christian Kofane. It’s likely that Leverkusen will not chance matters with Andrich in the forthcoming Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday. After Andrich departed proceedings in yesterday’s league win over St. Pauli, Ezequiel Fernandez and Aleix Garcia ran the middle double-six set-up well enough.
New summer signing Malik Tillman has also worked in central midfield, even scoring a goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday four. Tillman actually battled with precisely the same injury as Schick during the pre-season and was thus unable to partake much during training camp. New head coach Kasper Hjulmand retains options in the six slots, including giving Andrich a go against his former club Union next weekend.
