Real Madrid’s defeat to Bayern Munich continues to be dominated by one defining moment – the dismissal of Eduardo Camavinga.
While the Spanish giants have voiced strong frustration over the decision, Bayern Munich’s hierarchy has now stepped in to offer a very different perspective.
The incident, which unfolded in the closing stages of the match, has sparked widespread debate.
Camavinga was shown a second yellow card for time-wasting, a decision that ultimately left Real Madrid with ten men at a crucial point in the tie.
The timing proved decisive, as Bayern capitalised shortly after to seal their place in the semi-finals.
What made the situation even more controversial was the referee’s sequence of actions.
Slavko Vincic initially appeared to issue a routine booking, only to realise moments later that Camavinga had already been cautioned earlier in the match.
Once that became clear, the official had no choice but to apply the rules and send the midfielder off.

After conceding a foul to Harry Kane in Bayern’s half, Camavinga attempted to delay the restart by moving the ball away, preventing a quick free-kick.
The referee deemed this action as time-wasting, warranting a yellow card, which, given his prior booking, resulted in a dismissal.
From Real Madrid’s perspective, the decision has been viewed as harsh and game-changing.
However, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has dismissed the criticism, insisting that the referee simply followed the rules.
Speaking after the match, Eberl explained how he saw the situation unfold, defending the official’s actions amid the backlash.
He explained, “If he wasn’t aware of that [that Camavinga had already been booked], then it was a straight yellow card, because that’s what he intended to give.
“If he hadn’t given it because he thought he’d already been booked… But as it was, a straight yellow card.
“He’d already handled the ball twice before. Just leave it and walk away,” he explained, as per GOAL.
