Dayot Upamecano is highly coveted throughout Europe, but Real Madrid have apparently dropped out of the race for the central defender

Numerous interested parties have been keeping an eye on Bayern centre-back Dayot Upamecano, including Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool FC and, until recently, Real Madrid. However, the Whites now appear to have dropped out of the race. According to a report by The Athletic , the Frenchman’s financial demands cannot be met by the Madrilenians

As ESPN confirms, a transfer to the Spanish capital is therefore more or less off the table. However, a Bayern transfer is by no means a done deal, as while Upamecano is still in negotiations with the Munich club, PSG is also still considered a potential buyer

He will be able to hold concrete talks with the reigning Champions League winners as early as January, as his contract at Säbener Straße is due to expire in the summer of 2026

Bayern extension draws closer

Even if Upamecano can imagine a move to Paris, an extension at FC Bayern is currently the most likely option, as Munich are said to be willing to make concessions to their defensive boss on one point that is particularly crucial for him

As reported by BILD , the Bayern management are apparently prepared to include an exit clause in Upamecano’s new contract. This is said to be worth 65 million euros and would take effect just one year after the extension. Originally, the bosses wanted the 27-year-old to be allowed to move for this fixed sum only two years after signing in order to ensure greater planning security

Without this clause, however, Upamecano would possibly not extend his contract at all. A player with a market value of around 70 million would then be gone next summer. With a clause, the risk of leaving would still exist, but at least from a financial perspective, there would be a certain degree of planning certainty and the 65 million euros could be used to finance a top-class replacement if necessary.
