Bayern individual critique against Augsburg: Urbig fails, Kane and Co. too harmless

FC Bayern lost 2-1 to Augsburg at home in the Allianz Arena on the 19th Bundesliga matchday. The Bayern stars in the FCBinside individual critique

Jonas Urbig: Hardly had anything to do in the first half. Often initiated Bayern attacks with his precise drives. Allowed himself a serious slip-up shortly after the restart, which initially had no consequences. Didn’t look good again at 1-1 later on. Flew completely past the corner delivery and was thus significantly involved in the goal conceded. Grade: 4

Jonathan Tah: Once again proved to be a calming influence in the Bayern defence, intercepting many balls and not avoiding any duels. Failed to clear the corner before the 1:1. Was lucky in the 73rd minute that his deliberate handball in his own penalty area was not punished with a red card. Note: 3

Minjae Kim: Calm, no-frills performance from the South Korean, defending away everything that came his way. 3

Hiroki Ito: Gathering momentum after his comeback. Solid defensive display. Put Bayern ahead (2 scorers in the last three games). Had his left side under control for the most part. Was substituted in the closing stages after the equaliser. Mark: 2

Alphonso Davies: Made his first starting eleven appearance of the season and had to come on as a substitute on the right flank, which is unusual for him. Could hardly make a mark in attack. Defensively solid. Was replaced by Kimmich midway through the second half. Grade: 4

Leon Goretzka: Inconspicuous performance from the 30-year-old. Goretzka was mainly concerned with providing defensive stability in midfield. Made almost no impact in attack. 4

Aleksandar Pavlovic: In the absence of Joshua Kimmich, Pavlovic took the reins in Bayern’s midfield. Cranked up Bayern’s play time and time again and actively initiated numerous attacks by winning the ball. mark: 3

Michael Olise: Had a tough time against the well-organized FCA defence. Was doubled in almost every attack. Set up the 1-0 with a precise corner and, alongside Diaz, was the biggest troublemaker in the visitors‘ half. Made things much more difficult after the break and couldn’t find a way through. mark: 3

Lennart Karl: Covered a lot of ground, including in the back line. Had a good opportunity in the opening stages, but was rarely able to set the tone in the build-up play. Made an unusually high number of misplaced passes. Was substituted in the 61st minute, which was only logical. Mark: 4

Luis Diaz: Was, as always, very keen to boost Munich’s attack. Was the most active FCB attacker, especially in the early stages. Looked a little too hasty in the final third. Completely disappeared in the second half and was no longer able to have any real influence on Munich’s play. Mark: 4

Harry Kane: Kept dropping back against a deep-lying Augsburg side and acted as a playmaker, but was rarely able to set up his teammates. Hardly any goalscoring threat. mark: 4

Substitute:

Joshua Kimmich (61st for Davies): Replaced Davies at right back. Immediately set the tone in attack. Lost the decisive duel before FCA made it 1:2. mark: 4

Jamal Musiala (61st for Karl): Moved into attacking midfield for Karl, but could hardly make a mark there. 4

Nicolas Jackson (79th for Jackson): Too late a substitution for a grade

Tom Bischof (79th for Ito): Too late a substitution for a rating

Felipe Chavez (85th for Kim): Too late a substitution for a rating
