Bayern Munich have reportedly lodged an opening €40 million bid for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Bayern have stepped up their long-standing interest in the 28-year-old as they look to strengthen their defence for the new season.

Bremer is open to the move, with the opportunity to compete for major honours in Germany appealing to a player entering the prime years of his career.

However, Juventus are under no pressure to sell the Brazilian centre-back cheaply.

While the Turin giants are balancing their finances after making early additions to the squad, Bremer is one of their most valuable assets.

The Serie A club will demand at least €40 million. His €58m release clause is valid until August 10, but is viewed as unrealistic by most suitors.

Bayern’s relationship with Juventus could help negotiations progress, with both clubs enjoying productive dealings in recent years.

The Bavarians are eager to sign an experienced defender comfortable in one-on-one situations and capable of organising the backline, qualities Bremer has displayed in Italy.

If Juventus sanction the sale, the club is expected to move for a replacement, with Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi among the leading candidates.

Bayern’s Kim Min-jae has also been linked with a switch to Turin, where he could reunite with Luciano Spalletti after their successful spell together at Napoli.

Bremer could be the ideal successor to Min-jae, who the German champions are actively trying to move on this summer as they reshape their defensive options.

He never took off in Germany, but Bremer might enjoy better luck. His physical dominance and composure in possession would make him a natural fit alongside Dayot Upamecano.

Bremer bounced back from injury in terrific fashion last season, helping to keep 12 clean sheets in 26 Serie A appearances.

Signing Bremer would future-proof Bayern’s backline. Jonathan Tah joined to add experience but is entering the twilight of his career, and Bremer could take his starting berth.
