PSG have consistently targeted top French talent in recent transfer windows, signing Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier as part of that plan.

That trend looks likely to continue as the club aims to reinforce its defense. Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been linked, but PSG may instead pursue another prominent French center back.

Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, whose contract runs through the 2025–26 season, has reportedly drawn PSG’s interest. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reported that the club is monitoring his situation closely.

Romano also mentioned that a summer 2026 move could become feasible if Upamecano opts not to renew with Bayern, potentially allowing a free transfer.

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported Monday that PSG are actively exploring the possibility of signing Upamecano if he becomes a free agent, with discussions already held, including with Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich continue to hope that Upamecano will commit to a contract extension through at least 2030, though the release clause remains a key sticking point. Max Eberl is leading the negotiations.

Amid transfer rumors, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer spoke about the future of Upamecano at the German club.

“I’m optimistic to get new deal done,” Hainer said (h/t Fabrizio Romano). “I’m hearing that he’s extremely happy at Bayern, he feels incredibly comfortable in the team, and he also feels incredibly comfortable with the coach.”

Moreover, the French defender could also settle his next move ahead of the FIFA World Cup next summer.

“I hope so,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (h/t Paris Fans) when talking about whether he intends to have his future settled by the World Cup. “My agent is handling it. We’ll make the right decision. I’m getting good advice. I’m focused on my season, on my club and national team goals. My mind isn’t on that right now.”
