Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is back on Bayern Munich’s radar, according to The Athletic.

Nkunku is one of several players expected to leave Chelsea this summer, but there are slim pickings when it comes to potential destinations.

Bayern are one of only two clubs to have shown interest in the Frenchman, alongside Manchester United.

However, appears the Germans may be ahead of their Premier League counterparts, who have their hands tied with the Bryan Mbeumo deal.

Nkunku has been forced to play second fiddle to Cole Palmer in the number 10 role and can’t jump ahead of the misfiring Nicolas Jackson at centre-forward.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has repeatedly emphasised that he doesn’t view Nkunku as a striker and has acknowledged that he has struggled to integrate him into his system.

His Chelsea career hasn’t gone according to plan, especially after arriving on the back of a prolific campaign where he won the top scorer award at RB Leipzig.

Nkunku hasn’t pushed for a move away from Chelsea, but will welcome the chance to talk to interested parties, and Bayern want to bring him back to Germany.

The Blues won’t stand in his way, but Chelsea will insist on a permanent deal. They are also demanding at least £50 million for him.

Nkunku’s situation at Chelsea has been exacerbated by the arrivals of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town and Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion.

With Delap and Pedro in the mix as well as Jamie Gittens coming in from Borussia Dortmund, Nkunku will struggle to get a look-in next season.

Leaving the club appears to be the best solution for everyone, but Chelsea won’t blink unless their demands are met. It helps their position that Nkunku has four years left on his contract.
